$1.4 Million To Spruce Up A Quispamsis Nursing Home

A Quispamsis nursing home kicking around for a decade now will get up some dates thanks to a financial boost from the province.

Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Lisa Harris visited Kings Way Care Centre to announce $1.4 million for renovations at the 75-bed nursing home.

“A study shows where they need would be but again there will always be the thing that comes up throughout the years,” Harris says “if something comes up that really needs to get fixed like a leak, that would happen on top of that money”.

CEO Judy Lane says they plan to fix some problems associated with hard water in the facility.

“Our regular operating budget doesn’t allow for any of that, it’s just bare bones maintenance and so when things like this happen we don’t really have the money to deal with it,” Lane said.

The funding is provided through the five-year nursing home plan which also includes plans to build ten 60-bed nursing homes around the province.

407 beds for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia will be added to special care homes.
