1 arrested in alleged Saint John assault

One person has been arrested while another was taken to the hospital following an alleged assault in Saint John.

Police said they were called to Union Street between Charlotte and Sydney streets just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

First responders reported finding a 56-year-old man unresponsive on the ground when they arrived.

The victim was taken to the hospital and later released on Thursday, according to police.

A 58-year-old man was arrested at the scene and appeared in court on Thursday.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Monday for a bail hearing.
