100 New Jobs Coming For Blacks Harbour Company

With help from the provincial government, Cooke Aquaculture will be creating up to one hundred new jobs over the next five years.

Seventy-five of the jobs will be spread between the Cooke head office in Blacks Harbour, as well as operations in St. George and Grand Manan.

The remaining twenty-five jobs will be created at Cooke Aquaculture’s Saint John office.

Premier Brian Gallant was on hand at the Brunswick Street Wharf in Blacks Harbour for the announcement, “Your government’s multi-year economic growth plan is focused on investing to help New Brunswick-based businesses to compete in markets around the world. Cooke Aquaculture is a great example of how New Brunswick’s workforce and know-how can help businesses grow from right here in New Brunswick.”

Cooke Aquaculture currently employs over 1300 employees at their various locations in New Brunswick. The new positions are expected to include marine site workers, technicians, managers, logistics experts and truck drivers.

Cooke Aquaculture CEO Glenn Cooke said, “It is a tribute to the success of our recent acquisitions that we are able to continue to create new jobs here in New Brunswick. These new employees are needed to help us reach our latest growth targets and we are very pleased to be able to add so many of them as part of our operations in rural New Brunswick.”

The funding will be provided through Opportunities NB, in which Cooke Aquaculture is eligible for up to $1.9 million in investments, with $990,000 coming in the form of payroll rebates.
