$100M worth of building permit applications so far in 2023

It has been a busy year so far when it comes to development applications in Saint John.

The city said it received 406 building-related permit applications worth $100 million between January and July.

The number of applications is on par with the same period in 2022 and slightly below the five-year average of 425 permits.

However, the value of those construction projects is well above the average of $100 million.

City officials say more than 220 residential units have been created so far this year, which is above the five-year average of 144 units.

In addition, there are 19 projects currently in the queue with more than 2,300 new units planned throughout the city.
