11 New COVID-19 Cases Sunday, One At S.J. School

Public Health reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 Easter Sunday and announced a confirmed case at Loch Lomond School in Saint John.

Nine of the new cases were in the Zone 4 Edmundston area, while the other two were in the Saint John health zone, Zone 2.

One of the Saint John-region cases is someone 19 or under, which is connected to a previously confirmed case. The other infection was travel-related and involves someone in their 40s.

Two of the new infections in Edmundston are connected to previously reported cases while the other seven are under investigation.

There are now 162 active cases province-wide, the highest mark since February 10.

Outbreak in Zone 4

In the daily GNB release that includes the COVID-19 case numbers, the province’s chief medical officer of health said the Zone 4 outbreak is seeing increasing hospitalizations.

“We are continuing to see new cases daily as well as variants of concern, and an increase of more severe cases and hospitalizations, specifically in Zone 4,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell.

Fifteen patients are currently hospitalized with the virus, seven of whom are in an intensive care unit.

Loch Lomond School infection

The province said it discovered a case at Loch Lomond School in Saint John on Saturday.

As with previously reported cases in New Brunswick schools, staff and students have been notified, and anyone that is believed to be a close contact will be contacted directly by Public Health.
