Saint John woman scratches top Set for Life prize

A Saint John woman is Set for Life.

Barbara Nelson occasionally purchased scratch and win tickets on her way to work, and would play in the break room before her shift.

But this time, it was different. She scratched the Set For Life top prize, with a choice of either $1000 a week for 25 years or a lump sum payment of $675, 000.

Nelson opted for the $1000 a week for the next 25 years.

“With the way the economy has been going, I didn’t figure I would get to retire early or retire at all,” Nelson said.

“Now I’m just going to sit back and see where it leads me and let what comes, come.”

Nelson has worked for a chain restaurant for many years, and she says retirement will allow her to enjoy the summer, and her weekends and she’ll spend more time with her family.

Nelson’s Set for Life top-prize win was the seventh and final top prize available on the 4091 series of the game.

She purchased the winning Set for Life ticket at Esso Proxi Church in Saint John, and the seller will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
