Tariff relief package welcome news; Atlantic Chamber of Commerce

Tariff relief is welcome for Atlantic Canadian businesses.

On Monday, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced $80 million to support the region, as part of the billion dollar Regional Tariff Response Initiative.

Rhonda Tulk-Lane is the CEO of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce.

She says it will help industries that need it the most.

“We know there are still some businesses in different products like aluminum and steel, softwood lumber as well, that are hurting right now. So this relief is needed,” said Tulk-Lane.

She says it will help them strengthen domestic trade and expand markets.

“If you’re a business owner and you haven’t looked at other markets, you should do so. This program should help with that, so that you don’t have all your eggs in one basket.”

Tulk-Lane calls it a vital step forward for Atlantic businesses, and allows companies to adapt and thrive in a changing global landscape.
