Man shot dead after police operation in Moncton

One man was shot after a police operation in Moncton.

On Saturday at around 2 p.m., the RCMP got a call that a man was using a gun to rob a business on Mountain Road, according to a Sunday news release.

The suspect ran away and entered a nearby residence. Police arrived and set up a containment area while the man shot at them from the home.

Officials asked the public to avoid Mountain Road, Gorge Road, Frampton Lane and Briardale Drive on Saturday.

Police say the suspect lit the home and a parked car on fire and tried to run away, but an officer shot the man, and he died on scene.

Moncton fire was also called to a home on Briardale Drive on Saturday.

The incident concluded around 3 p.m., according to a social media post from RCMP on Saturday.

Because a man was shot, the police have referred the case to the Serious Incident Response Team, who investigates police conduct in similar cases.
