Cat reunited with owners after fire

A Moncton family has been reunited with its furry family member.

On October 8, a fire in a Veinot Street home in Moncton left extensive damage. Several pets were lost in the fire.

But the family received good news when firefighters returned and found a cat under the patio.

New Brunswick SPCA Chief Animal Protection Officer Tony Porter says it received treatment at a veterinarian clinic, “It was given a high level of oxygen because it suffered quite a bit of smoke inhalation, and fluids. They put the cat on observation for a couple of days, and it was returned to the owner a few days later.”

Porter adds that it feels pretty great when stories have a happy ending like this.

“We have 16 very dedicated field officers and tech officers throughout the province. When you get situations like this, and you have an animal that recovers from injuries. It’s a really great feeling for these men and women of the New Brunswick SPCA. It’s a success story.”

In the case of fires, Porter suggests including your pets in your emergency evacuation plan.
