An investigation by the Serious Incident Response Team has found that a police officer committed no criminal offence in a Fredericton incident.
Officers were dispatched to a home on April 4, 2025, for a wellness check.
Police detained a woman in handcuffs to be taken to the hospital, but officers say she was uncooperative.
While being escorted by an officer, the woman resisted and fell, hitting her face on the concrete floor. She suffered a broken jaw as a result of the fall.
SiRT was contacted on April 11, when they became aware of the severity of the injury, and an investigation was launched.
They found no reasonable grounds to believe that there was any wrongdoing by the Fredericton Police officer in connection with the woman’s injury.
The Serious Incident Response Team, referred to as SiRT, is a civilian-led police oversight agency responsible for conducting investigations into incidents that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault, intimate partner violence or any matter of public interest that may have resulted from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.
