Don’t Expect Ribbon Cuttings And Spending Announcements: Higgs

Premier Blaine Higgs in Saint John on Friday to celebrate the Saint John Regional Chamber’s 200th anniversary.

He hasn’t been seen in the city much since the Tories officially formed government last fall.

Former Premier Brian Gallant had an office in Saint John and regularly made announcements in the city.

Higgs wonders what having that office accomplished, calling it a photo-op.

“And I’m not going around cutting ribbons and making announcements of where I’m going to spend your tax dollars,” Higgs told reporters in Saint John on Friday.

Instead, Higgs says he wants people to feel the results of the things they accomplish.

“I’m spending a lot of hours working with departments working with projects trying to get a network of people to fix New Brunswick, not just a network of politicians doing photo-ops,” Higgs said.

He says that can be a solution for the New Brunswick Museum or working with existing businesses to see if they want to settle in Saint John or anywhere in the province.
