DEC Still Hopeful For Central Saint John School

The chair of the Anglophone South District Education Council is hoping some of the funding for new capital projects in education could be for a new Saint John school.

Rob Fowler says about $44 million of the $70.5 million in the budget is already set aside for existing projects.

“$23 [million] is going to repair and maintenance capital projects so that doesn’t leave a whole lot, about $3 million approximately. So, what we are hoping is that within that $3 million there is some money to perhaps start the design phase,” Fowler said.

As for repairs to existing schools in the district, Fowler says they will submit a capital projects budget in the spring.

They often ask for $30 million and end up getting $2 million to $3 million.
