Brenda Robertson Passes Away At 91

New Brunswick’s first ever female MLA and cabinet minister has passed away.

Brenda Robertson died yesterday at her Monarch Hall home in Riverview at the age of 91.

Robertson was born in Sussex and was first elected in 1967 in Albert, but then was re-elected four times in the Riverview riding.

She served in several ministerial portfolios including Minister of Health.

In 1984, she was called to the Senate by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney where she served until she retired in 2004.

Of her numerous recognitions, one of her proudest was being appointed to the Order of New Brunswick in 2004 and the Order of Canada in 2008.

Her children, Doug, Leslie and Tracy say a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
