2 arrested after allegedly blocking ambulance in Saint John

Two people, including a youth, have been arrested after allegedly blocking an ambulance responding to an emergency.

Saint John police said the incident happened on Route 1 westbound near the Rothesay Avenue exit around 4:45 a.m. Sunday.

According to investigators, the ambulance was being blocked by two vehicles preventing it from passing on the highway.

“Officers responded to the area and located the two suspect vehicles in a parking lot in the Crown Street area,” police said in a news release on Monday.

“One of the vehicles was parked unoccupied and the other attempted to flee colliding with a police vehicle.”

Police said it was later determined that both vehicles were reported to have been stolen. No injuries were reported.

A 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were arrested for dangerous operation of motor vehicles.

Both were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday on a number of additional charges.

Anyone with information or video footage of the incident is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
