2 arrested after loaded firearms seized from vehicle

Saint John police say they seized two loaded firearms from a stolen vehicle following a brief pursuit.

An undercover officer allegedly saw a pickup truck driving recklessly uptown around 2 p.m. Thursday.

“A marked police vehicle attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop and then turned into a driveway on Waterloo Street where the driver fled on foot into a nearby building,” police said in a news release on Friday.

Police confirmed the truck had been stolen from the Greater Moncton area, according to the release.

The driver, a 40-year-old man, eventually returned to the scene and was arrested along with the passenger, a 37-year-old man.

“A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of two loaded firearms and ammunition,” said the release.

Both are scheduled to appear in court on Friday for flight from police, possessing a stolen truck, and firearms-related offences.
