2 arrested, weapons seized at home near Hampton

Two men have been arrested following a weapons-related incident at a home near Hampton.

RCMP said officers were called to a residence on Route 111 in Hillsdale last Wednesday.

Members of the Sussex and Hampton RCMP detachments were assisting the Saint John Police Force in the search for a missing woman.

The woman was found safe at the scene. Police say she told officers that two men inside the home had access to firearms.

A containment area was set up and RCMP called in their Emergency Response Team, including Tactical Armoured Vehicles.

A 55-year-old from Hillsdale and a 36-year-old from Springfield were arrested without incident.

Police later searched the home and seized a shotgun and a crossbow.

The 55-year-old appeared in court last Thursday and was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm.

He was released and is scheduled to return to court on August 14.

The 36-year-old appeared the same day and was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm and failure to comply with a court order.

He was remanded and will appear in court on a future date.
