200th Anniversary Of The HMS Regulus

The New Brunswick Black History Society, in collaboration with PRUDE Incorporated, will be celebrating an important anniversary here in the city.
President of PRUDE Incorporated Ralph Thomas says it’s the 200th anniversary of the HMS Regulus, a vessel that carried liberated slaves here to Saint John.
Thomas says the Regulus came from Bermuda to Halifax, then from Halifax to Saint John.
An event will be held in honour of the anniversary on Friday on St. Martins Road, at the black burial ground in Willow Grove starting at 1pm.
Thomas says the liberated slaves that stayed in the province settled in the Willow Grove and Loch Lomond area.
