COVID Outbreaks Impacting Moncton Hospital

Horizon Health says COVID-19 outbreaks are affecting the oncology and general surgery units at The Moncton Hospital.

The hospital’s executive director says 14 patients and 10 staff members have been impacted by the outbreaks, which are now contained.

Christa Wheeler-Thorne said both units are currently closed to admissions and transfers until further notice, and patients are restricted to their rooms.

“Unit staff are following enhanced IPC [infection prevention and control] guidelines and foot traffic to these units will be limited to essential services, such as food services,” Wheeler-Thorne said in a statement.

Wheeler-Thorne said mass testing is also continuing, adding that 28 days must pass without any new cases before an outbreak can be declared over.

The outbreaks were declared in both of the units last week, according to Horizon Health spokesperson Kris McDavid.
