Fire damages Rothesay commercial building

A commercial building on Marr Road in Rothesay has been damaged by fire.

The Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department was called to the scene around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

“When we arrived on the scene, we found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building,” Deputy Chief Shawn White said in an interview.

Crews were able to quickly enter the building and put out the fire, said White, but firefighters did have to cut a hole in the roof for ventilation.

The department also requested mutual aid from Hampton for a second ladder truck, he said.

White said the building is home to the Royal Canadian Legion Kennebecasis Branch #58 along with a number of businesses.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Marr Road was closed to traffic due to the blaze but has since reopened.
