Body of missing boater found; search continues for second man

Police say the body of one of two missing boaters in northeastern New Brunswick has been found.

Alderic and Léandre Thibodeau went out for a fishing trip on Monday afternoon but failed to return home.

The two had last been seen at a wharf in the community of Brantville around 1 p.m. Monday.

An extensive search, which involved the RCMP and Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, has been underway since.

Officials say an overturned boat matching the description of the one the two boaters were travelling in was found near Portage Island on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, JRCC suspended its search for the boaters, saying the matter would continue with the RCMP as a missing persons case.

Mounties say an individual found a body in the area that police were searching on Saturday. The body was later identified as one of the two missing men.

RCMP said they will remain in the area over the coming days as search efforts continue for the second man.
