Cucumbers up 63 per cent over last year, fruits and soup higher too

You are not being fooled if cucumbers, canned soup and flatbread seem more expensive these days.

Stats Canada figures show those items are up between 30 and 60 per cent in price when compared to last year.

Cucumbers top the list and are up 63 per cent while strawberries and cantaloupes round out the top five.

The items that are cheaper over the same time frame include beef, oranges and Avocados.

Beef is actually down 29 per cent compared to last year. Pork and limes round out the list of cheaper items.

It comes as shoppers have faced soaring costs for food in the past year and the federal government prepares to hand out so-called “grocery rebates” which will give a family of four over $400 and seniors more than $200.
