Fredericton-area man arrested in copper wire theft investigation

RCMP arrested a Kingsley man after a large quantity of copper wire was recovered.

Officers received information on March 23 about an individual who was trying to sell copper wire near Fredericton that was confirmed to be stolen.

Police say it is believed to be worth more than $10,000.

On March 31, a 57-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation.

He was later released, with a court appearance scheduled in July.

RCMP says there have been a number of copper wire thefts in areas including Fredericton, Oromocto, Riverview and Moncton, causing losses to businesses, homes and government departments.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity near an electrical substation or power poles is asked to contact their local police department. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
