$31 million Lotto Max winner got ticket as a birthday present

It might go down as one of the best birthday presents in Maritime history.

Marie McCarthy of New Waterford, NS was revealed this morning as Lotto Max’s $31 million dollar winner.

She realized she won the prize the day after her birthday, which was January 31st.

“My grandson got me three tickets and my other niece bought me one. He checked the ticket in the morning and said there was nothing on it. I said, ‘Did you check the second ticket?’
I came down the stairs and he said ‘You got all the numbers’…”

McCarthy said it won’t seem real until she sees her bank statement, but said she plans to help out her family, paying off mortgages for her nieces and nephews.

She also wants to get herself a vintage Cadillac.

It was the biggest lotto prize in the Maritime’s, with $60 million as the largest jackpot won in Atlantic Canada in 2018, in NewFoundland and Labrador.
