First Canadian evacuation flight from Sudan taken place

Making an announcement in Enfield, NS this morning, Defense Minister Anita Anand provided an update on the situation in Sudan.

“I can confirm that a first Canadian evacuation flight from Sudan has taken place,” Anand said.

The war-torn country currently in a 72-hour ceasefire set to expire Thursday night.

According to reports hundreds have been killed in nearly two weeks of conflict between the army and a rival paramilitary force.

Around 180 Canadians have been evacuated out of 700 who have asked for assistance.
