Halifax man charged in inmate’s death at Atlantic Institution

Second-degree murder charges have been laid against a Halifax man in connection with a death at a correctional facility.

Thirty-one-year-old Christian Enang Clyke was charged earlier this week, in connection with another inmate’s death at the Atlantic Institution in Renous.

Forty-nine-year-old Richard King of Hainesville, New Brunswick was assaulted in October of 2022. He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

An investigation into his death determined King had died of homicide.

Clyke, who is serving time for second-degree murder in the death of a woman in 2011, appeared in Miramichi court on May 15.

King was also imprisoned for second-degree murder after the 2006 death of a Woodstock, New Brunswick man.

Clyke is scheduled to return to court on May 25.
