Entangled North Atlantic Right Whale Reported Near Shippagan

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is monitoring another entangled North Atlantic Right Whale in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The whale was spotted on August 20, east of Shippagan.

The New England Aquarium matched the entangled whale to a yearling, known as 3720.

The state of the whale and the length of time it has been entangled is unknown at this time.

The last sighting prior to the one in August was in March this year off the coast of Provincetown, Massachusetts.

There’s no word at this point on the type of gear the whale is entangled in.
