A watermain connected to Kennebecasis Park is in danger of being frozen or damaged if a bank on the Hillside walking trail continues to erode.
Rothesay council taking action against that happening by agreeing to spend $50,000 on fixing up the trail which Mayor Bill Bishop says isn’t currently budgeted for. However, he says, they do have reserve funds for things like this and regardless – if it’s a water supply, it’s going to be fixed.
A report delivered to council by Town Manager John Jarvie says while this is an expensive, unbudgeted item the potential costs are much higher if the slope failure continues and a part of the watermain is lost.
The report states that the stabilization work will cost $20,000 while work to expose and inspect the watermain reinstate the trail and side slope is expected to cost an extra $30,000.
