Funding for enhanced security measures across the country.
The federal government announced $5 million to the Security Infrastructure Program.
Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc says it’s in response to things like hate crimes across the country.
“Many communities…vulnerable communities…are understandably and reasonably concerned for their safety. So, we wanted to reassure them that the government of Canada will be there to partner with them,” LeBlanc said.
LeBlanc said through the program facilities be able to apply for things like temporary private security.
Childcare Centres, Community Centres and offices, will also be able to apply for funding.
The Security Infrastructure Program provides time-limited funding and support for communities at risk for hate-motivated/crime to help enhance security at facilities.
