The Commissioner of Transportation and Environment Services for Saint John, Bill Edwards, says the parking ban on Tuesday night on the east and west sides along with the north end due to the snow storm was relatively successful.
He says people were given a break because it was the first snow fall, so no vehicles were towed, but some were handed tickets.
Edwards says roughly 80 % of the city respected the ban and moved their vehicles off the street.
He says the city is seeking legislative change that will allow the Saint John Parking Commission to tow vehicles because the only individuals with that power right now are the police, who are busy enough on stormy nights.
He says on a typical year, the city hauls away 2500-3000 tandem loads of snow but last year close to 20,000 loads were removed.
