Weapons seizure leads to arrest and charges

A 41-year-old man is facing charges after the seizure of numerous weapons.

Saint John police received reports on Sunday night about an armed man in a vehicle on Crown Street.

He attempted to flee on foot when officers arrived but was quickly taken into custody.

A bulletproof vest, camouflage clothing, red and blue lights, ammunition, a fake handgun, multiple knives and a throwing star were found inside the vehicle.

Charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of an imitation weapon, careless handling of ammunition, and resisting arrest have been laid.

The man will return to court on Thursday for a bail hearing.
