Rainfall warnings and special weather statements remain in effect for much of the Maritimes.
For southern and eastern New Brunswick, 20 to 40 mm of rain or more is possible through Saturday night with gusty winds.
The same low pressure system is bringing wet, windy weather to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Some areas of western N.S. and mainland Atlantic coastal counties could receive as much as 100 mm before easing Saturday afternoon. There’s a les suêtes wind warning in effect for parts of Cape Breton. Southeast winds could gust up to 110 km/h from Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence.
Environment Canada advises that similar storms in the past have caused hazardous driving conditions, transportation delays and utility outages.
High winds and rough seas are disrupting ferry service this weekend:
- All Northumberland Ferries departures have been cancelled for Saturday.
- Marine Atlantic has cancelled Saturday’s crossings between Port aux Basques and North Sydney.
- Saturday’s sailings of The CAT between N.S. and Maine have been cancelled and are planned to resume Sunday.
As of 10 a.m. Saturday, the Confederation Bridge joining N.B and P.E.I. remains open, according to its website.
