New Brunswick’s forest fire season officially began this week and the entire province remains under a burn ban.
The Department of Natural Resources is urging residents to check the burn line daily at 1-866-458-8080 or visit the forest fire watch site online HERE.
DNR wildfire prevention officer Roger Collette says there are many fuels in the spring to start fires.
“At this time of the year, there is no green. The grass is still dead and so it’s quite dry,” he notes.
With little precipitation recently and the fact the snow has melted over most of the province, Collette says the brown, dry landscape left behind means this is a dangerous time for fires.
