Construction is set to begin this month on a new fitness centre at Portage Atlantic, a residential drug addiction rehab centre for youth.
The facility is named after Dr. Bill Lewis, who’s initial donation kick-started the Lewis Fitness Centre campaign two years ago.
Program Manager Luc Desjardins says the facility will include a gym for a variety of sports and a weight room as well.
Desjardins says the new fitness centre will help the retention rate and attract future clients.
He says a lot of youth at the rehab centre were involved in sports growing up, but put it aside due to their addiction.
Desjardins says this new centre will give them a great opportunity to create positive habits that will be good for them both emotionally and physically.
