As many of us celebrated Mother’s day with our moms yesterday, many of the families in Fort McMurray, were just thankful to be together, and safe.
As Alberta Premier Rachel Notley gave her update on the wildfire situation, it was an emotional moment for her. She fought back tears, and took a moment to speak, “I am hoping in all of this crisis to just spend a few minutes with my own children. That not all of us can do this is definitely an awful tragedy. So, today, Mother’s Day, all of us in Alberta are thinking of you who have suffered these losses.”

Chad Morrison with Alberta Fire says there was some good news on the wildfire front yesterday, with some help from Mother Nature, and a break in the weather. .
Executive Director for Alberta Emergency Management Scott Long says they are hoping to go into Fort McMurray today to see the damage to some of the important structures, like power stations, hospitals and water treatments plants.
Long says it is too early to put a dollar figure on the amount of damage. They have to go in an assess all of the structures first.
