Trial Hears Likelihood of Phone Pinging Rothesay Tower While In Uptown SJ “Minimal”

The likelihood of a cell phone pinging the so-called Fairvale cell tower located at the Riverside Country Club in Rothesay while being in the uptown Saint John area would be “minimal” according to Joseph Sadoun, who has been declared a cellular network expert at the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland who is accused of killing his father Richard Oland.

The only thing missing from Richard Oland’s investment firm office at 52 Canterbury Street, where his body was found on July 7, 2011, was his cell phone. The trial has heard the last communication with cell tower information received on his cell phone was a text message from his mistress at 6:44pm on July 6, 2011 and the tower pinged was the Fairvale tower at 2524 Rothesay Road. Richard Oland’s business associate has testified Richard Oland was generally attached to his cell phone.

Richard Oland’s iPhone was disconnected at 4:44pm from his main computer at Far End Corporation on July 6, 2011.

The trial has also heard the result of an attempt to locate Richard Oland’s cell phone on July 9, 2011 was a “roaming error”.

Sadoun will be back on the witness stand on Thursday for cross-examination by the defence. The trial begins at 9:30am at the Saint John Law Courts.
