Monday Morning Sports For June 6th

Saint John High won the provincial “AAA” Track and Field Championship with 26 medals, 5 Gold, 12 Silver and 9 Bronze. Graduating athletes Brady Graves won both the 1500 and 3000 metres in the senior boy’s category and Ashley Murray won the senior girls triple jump in a personal best jump. Marie-Pier Cloutier of Samuel de Champlain as a junior won all three of her events, the 80, 100 and 200 metre hurdles.

In the NBA final, it was another blowout with Golden State winning over Cleveland 110-77 to take a two games to nothing lead.

In the Majors, Marco Estrada took a no hitter into the eighth inning for the third time in a year before it was broken up by Chris Young’s home run with one out and the Toronto Blue Jays held off the Boston Red Sox 5-4…..Matt Wieters followed a lengthy rain delay with a tiebreaking two run, pinch-hit single in the eighth inning off reliever Aroldis Chapman as Baltimore rallied past the New York Yankees 3-1.

Elsewhere, it was Cleveland sweeping a 4 game series frrom Kansas City with a 7-0 win…..Detroit 5 Chicago White Sox 2….Washington 10 Cincinnati 9…Miami 1 NY Mets 0….Philadelphia 8 Milwaukee 1…..Los Angeles Angels 5 Pittsburgh 4…..Tampa Bay 7 Minnesota 5….Houston 5 Oakland 2….Arizona 3 Chicago Cubs 2….Texas 3 Seattle 2….Los Angeles Dodgers 12 Atlanta 6…St. Louis 6 San Francisco 3 and Colorado 10 San Diego 3.

Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib suffered a gunshot wound to his lower right leg at a nightclub in Dallas early Sunday morning and is expected to be released from hospital today.
