The Provincial government is giving more than $40,000 to the New Brunswick SPCA to enforce regulations around the 24-hour tethering of dogs.
Local Government Minister Brian Kenny says they are pleased to support increased awareness and enforcement of the regulations that went into effect a year ago.
Since December 1st of last year, New Brunswick SPCA Executive Director Hilary Howes says they’ve noticed a gradual reduction in calls about tethering which he says is a good sign.
The current rules say you cannot tether your dog outside for more than 30 minutes between 11 at night and 6 in the morning unless somebody is outside with them and within 25 metres of the dog.
