Saturday Morning Sports For July 4th

The Detroit Tigers expect two time American League MVP Miguel Cabrera to go on the disabled list for the first time in his career. The first baseman left last night’s 8-6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth inning when he strained his left calf while breaking for second base on an attempted hit-and-run….Brian McCann’s walkoff homer in the bottom of the 12th gave the Yankees a 7-5 win over Tampa Bay…..The Yankees move ahead of Baltimore into first place in the A-L East after the Orioles lose to the White Sox 1-0. The Red Sox lost to Houston in 10 innings, 12-8.

In the National League, Clint Robinson hit a two run homer in the seventh inning to give Washington a 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants while the West leading Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the New York Mets 2-1.

There’s New Brunswick Senior baseball in town this afternoon with the Saint John Alpines hosting the Charlottetown Islanders in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 at Memorial Field.

The Columbus Blue Jackets announcing they have signed recently acquired forward Brandon Saad to a six-year contract extension…..Goaltender Jake Allen of Fredericton signs a two year deal to stay in St. Louis and the San Jose Sharks have signed free agent forward Joel Ward to a three year contract
