Friday Morning Sports For June 20th

At the World Cup, it was another disappointing performance by England in a 2-1 loss to Uruguay with Luis Suarez scoring twice……Colombia got by the Ivory Coast 2-1……Greece and Japan played to a scoreless draw.

In the Majors, Scott Kazmir improved to 9 and 2 and Yeonis Cespedes hit his 14th homer of the season as the Oakland A’s downed the Red Sox 4-2….. Carlos Beltran drove in two runs…..Jacoby Ellsbury scored twice and stole two bases as the Yankees beat the Blue Jays 6-4 for their 16th consecutive home win over Toronto.

In New Brunswick Senior Baseball, the Saint John Alpines losing to the Hub City Brewers 10-2…..The Alpines will be hosting Charlottetown tomorrow afternoon at Memorial Field in a 1:00 start.

In the River Valley Oldtimers League, the Home Hardware Kings over Browns Flat 9-0 and Exit Realty defeated the Molson Merchants 9-4.

The Anaheim Ducks will not be offering center Saku Koivu and goalie Jonas Hiller new contracts.

Reports out of New York claim Pat Riley of the Miami Heat has pretty much given up any hope of luring Carmelo Anthony away from the Knicks.
