Rothesay Gets Recommendations On Rail Safety

Rothesay Council has been worried about what would happen if there should be a train derailment in the town ever since the catastrophe in Lac Megantic last summer. A committee on rail safety was set up and it has come up with a series of recommendations.

The committee is recommending the establishment of a helicopter landing area in Kennebecasis Park and urges the town to look to build other access roads in and out of K-Park.

The committee would also like to see upgraded guidelines for how far away homes should be from the rail line, a review be done of the town’s emergency plan, evacuation plans be put together for each neighbourhood and the issue of train whistling be studied.
