DNA testimony from 2015 wrapping up at the Dennis Oland second-degree murder trial featuring specialists Joy Kearsey and Thomas Suzanski.
Thomas Suzanski testified that DNA tested on one spot on the outside right sleeve of the brown jacket belonging to Dennis Oland was the DNA type for Richard Oland and he said the odds of it being someone else was 1 in 20 quintillions.
When Gold asked how big a number it was Suzanski said to take the 2 and add 19 zeros.
Suzanski did typing on sample from right outside sleeve brown jacket. It was Richard Oland’s DNA. Chance of anyone similar from canadian data base was 1 in 20 quintillion. That is a 2 with 19 zeros. Same for another small spot.

Kearsey talked about how the small spots of blood that were found when the jacket was processed.
She told Alan Gold the pieces were cut out leaving a few millimetres for a border.
Gold asked if DNA could migrate while the exhibit was rolled up in a bag and she replied yes.
Thomas Suzanski passed away in 2017.
