UPDATED: Flags To Be Lowered To Half-Mast In Honour Of Late Elsie Wayne

Condolences continue to pour in for the late Elsie Wayne, former mayor and MP for Saint John, who has died at the age of 84.

The public will be able to put their condolences to paper as a book of condolences will be available to sign on the 8th floor of Saint John City Hall starting on Wednesday from 8:30am until 4:30pm until the day of Wayne’s funeral. As well, flags at City Hall and main City facilities will be lowered to half-mast in her honour.

Visitation will be on Thursday at Brenan’s Funeral Home from 6pm-8pm and Friday from 2pm-8pm. Her funeral will be on Saturday morning at 11 at RiverCross Church.

Mayor Don Darling and the members of Saint John council have extended their condolences to Elsie Wayne’s family.

Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long says we’ve lost a true icon and a true legend.

“Elsie Wayne is synonymous with politics in Saint John…Elsie Wayne is certainly known locally and across the country as a fierce fighter for Saint John,” says Long.

“One thing I’ve always admired about Elsie Wayne was just her grassroots connection to people in Saint John and how much she loved this great city.”
