Eye Strain Can Be Misinterpreted In Students Starting School

There is a link between vision health and learning that Canadian optometrists want parents to know about as school starts.

Dr. Krista McDevitt says the biggest misconception for parents is that their child is reading well and understanding what they see on the page but that doesn’t mean everything is ok.

She says the problem is that what the child is seeing is not telling us what strain the visual system is under.

McDevitt says a child experiencing won’t go to their parents and tell them, all they know it is feels difficult to read and they may become frustrated.

She recommends eye exam by the age of 3 to detect any problems early enough to prevent them from interfering with learning.
