Mayor In Halifax To Hear Its Growth Plan

Mayor Don Darling is in Halifax to find out what city’s plan for growth is all about and how Halifax sells itself.

A survey of Saint Johnners has found out their top priority has shifted from roads to economic growth and more jobs. Deputy Mayor Shirley McAlary says in order to grow the city, there has to be a more positive attitude among Saint Johnners because no one is going to move to a city where people are always complaining about how bad things are.

Saint Johnners, who were surveyed, don’t believe the city is being marketed as well as it could be.

Common Councillor David Merrithew, who chairs the city’s Finance Committee, agrees with that but he points out the survey also shows people are more optimistic than they were a few years ago, saying the quality of life in the city has improved.

The survey also reveals a high level of satisfaction with police and fire services but more work has to be done about public transit, snow removal, sidewalks and recycling.
