Women Urged To Get Pap Tests During Cervical Cancer Awareness Week

A Lower Coverdale man knows first hand how important it is for women to a get a Pap test.

Joe Jones lost his mother to cervical cancer and she hadn’t had a Pap test in 30 years.

Jones has some important advice for women.

“I would say 100 percent, go for your Pap test every year. I mean for 30 seconds of embarrassment… I mean there are lots of things in life nobody wants to do. But when you see the end result of not getting it done, I guarantee you that you will defintely get your test done,” says Jones.

Women between the ages of 18 and 69 should have a Pap test at least once every two to three years.

Each year about 30 women in New Brunswick are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 10 will die from it.
