Pair Accused Of Stealing $10K Diamond Make Court Appearance

A pair accused in the theft of a $10,000 diamond from a jewelry store in Brunswick Square earlier this month have made a court appearance in Saint John.

70-year-old Grigori Zaharov and 44-year-old Natalia Feldman have both been charged with theft over $5000.

They were arrested at their home in Vaughn, Ontario on October 20 by the York Regional Police, according to Saint John police Sergeant Chuck Breen who also tells us that they have been held in custody since then in Toronto. Tuesday afternoon, Saint John police officers flew up to Toronto and brought the two down to Saint John.

“When we issued the warrants for arrest, we learned that they were living in their area and subsequently they executed our warrants for us,” says Sgt. Breen. “We’ve been dealing with them since in regards to getting them held in court up there and brought down to Saint John to appear on the charges.”

On Monday, a date is going to be set for a bail hearing for Zaharov and Feldman. The Crown is objecting to release, saying that flight is a high probability. There will be a Russian interpreter present for the two.

They are suspects in several other places for similar crimes.
