In the NHL, rookie Connor Brown had two goals and two assists for a career high four points to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 6-1 victory over Florida for their seventh win in nine home games……Minnesota got a goal with under a minute left for a 1-0 win over Boston…..Jake Allen made 29 saves for the win as St. Louis got by San Jose 3-2….Elsewhere, it was Tampa Bay 4 Buffalo 1…Philadelphia 5 Winnipeg 2…..Nashville 5 Ottawa 1….Dallas 3 Colorado 2…..Anaheim 3 New Jersey 2…..Vancouver over Arizona in overtime 3-2 and Los Angeles 4 Edmonton 2.

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos will be out for about 4 months after undergoing knee surgery.

Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs has been named the Most Valuable Player in the National League while Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels has been named the MVP in the American League for the second time. Mookie Betts of the Boston Red Sox finished second.

The New York Yankees traded veteran catcher Brian McCann and $11 million to the Houston Astros for a pair of young minor league pitchers. The Astros also signed free agent outfielder Josh Reddick.
