Two Murals Unveiled For Fort La Tour Historic Site

Two murals that are located on Harbour Passage at the Fort La Tour historic site were unveiled today.

Chair of the Fort La Tour Development Authority Beth Hatt says the two murals bring the history of the site to life.

Hatt says the murals were a collaboration between the First Nations, Acadian community, artists and Irving Oil with Barry Odgen a driving force behind the project.

One mural features Madame La Tour, who defended the fort back in the 1600’s.

The other mural shows the history of the Wolastoqiyik community who lived on the Saint John River for nearly 12,000 years.

An application has been submitted to all three levels of government for a $2 million dollar project that would see an actual fort built at the Fort La Tour site.

Hatt hopes to have the funding in place in time to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.
