MLA Gerry Lowe Testifies In Oland Trial

It’s now the defense’s turn during the trial of Dennis Oland, who is charged with the second-degree murder of his father, Richard.

Lead defense lawyer Alan Gold called now Saint John Harbour M-L-A Gerry Lowe to the stand.

Lowe was taken back to a day he was at Thandi’s restaurant uptown and was asked about a statement he made to police regarding seeing a man leaving Richard Oland’s office on a July evening in 2011.

He was asked if he recalls the conversation and when it took place, and replied eight years was a long time ago.

During cross-examination, Crown prosecutor Jill Knee suggested Lowe didn’t remember anything relevant and couldn’t be specific with his date or time recall.

Upon re-direct, Gold wanted to refresh Lowe’s memory by reading the police narratives, including his police statements — Knee objected, but the judge allowed it.

The night in question was July 6th, 2011 — the night of Richard’s murder.

Dennis Oland is scheduled to testify on Wednesday.
