Celebrating the Life and Legacy of “DK”

RiverCross church in Saint John welcomed #TeamDK to remember the life of David “DK” Kelly who passed away last week following a long battle with cancer.

Kelly was known for his love of the Saint John Sea Dogs and the Boston Red Sox.

Pastor Rob Nylen told everyone in attendance that David planned the entire service from beginning to end.

“I am just waiting for a surprise that none of us knew about. Maybe the Boston Red Sox will show up and sing us a choir piece. We’ll be ready for it if it happens.” Nylen said.

DK’s friend, Broadcaster Ron McLean, told a story about his dedication while serving as the Sea Dogs equipment manager.

“When I think of that car parked outside the rink all through the night to get the Sea Dogs ready, he’d be the one at night to take the chances so the Dogs would be ready for the day. He was a beautiful spirit who will be with us forever.” McLean says.

Saint John MP and former Sea Dogs president Wayne Long met “DK” as a 26-year -old with spikey hair and a big smile.

Long says little did he know he was meeting a modern day superhero.

“He was the rock, he was constant and those that say the organizations is bigger than any one person that doesn’t include DK.
DK was the Saint John Sea Dogs. He was the rock we always leaned on.” Long says.
